Pumpwise Privacy Policy
Last updated: 29 October 2026
Pumpwise shows official fuel prices near you. It is built to need as little of your information as possible. This policy explains what the app does and does not do with data.
The short version
- Pumpwise has no accounts, no sign-in, no adverts, no analytics and no tracking.
- Your location is used on your iPhone to work out distances. It is never sent to us or stored by us.
- Your settings (fuel, search area, fill-up size, fuel economy, recent places) stay on your iPhone.
Your location
With your permission, Pumpwise reads your location while the app is open. It uses it on your device to work out which stations are near you and how far away they are, and to show the name of your area (looked up by Apple's own map service on your iPhone).
To get prices, the app downloads public price files from the Pumpwise feed on GitHub Pages. Each file covers an area of roughly 50 by 50 kilometres, so the request shows only which broad area you are in, in the same way any web request reveals an approximate location from your internet address. GitHub may keep routine server logs as described in the GitHub Privacy Statement at https://docs.github.com/site-policy/privacy-policies/github-general-privacy-statement. Pumpwise does not receive, keep or see these logs.
Pumpwise never collects location in the background and never stores your location history. You can turn location off at any time in the iPhone Settings app and search around a suburb, town or postcode instead.
Place search
If you search for a place, the words you type are sent to Apple's map service to find it, as when you search in Apple Maps. UK postcodes are looked up with postcodes.io, a free public service built on Ordnance Survey and Office for National Statistics open data (https://postcodes.io/about). Nothing else is sent with a search.
Directions
When you tap Directions, Pumpwise opens Apple Maps, Google Maps or Waze with the station's position. What happens next is covered by that app's own privacy policy.
Data you choose
Your fuel, search area, fill-up size, fuel economy, members-only choice, appearance and recent places are saved in the app's private storage on your iPhone. They are never transmitted. Deleting the app removes them.
Children
Pumpwise is not directed at children and collects no personal information from anyone.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be published at https://tjcraw6589.github.io/pumpwise/privacy.html with a new date.
